HMCS Fergus was commissioned at Collingwood, Ontario on 18 Nov 1944, and was the last Corvette which was launched for the RCN.

The FERGUS saw duties as a convoy escort, working out of St. John's, Newfoundland during the Winter and Spring of 1944-45. Her travels also took her to Bermuda for work-ups and overseas to England, which is where she was located when peace was announced in May of 1945.

HMCS FERGUS was paid off at Sydney, NS on 14 Jul 1945 and later placed in reserve at Sorel, Quebec. She was later sold for civilian use and renamed Camco II. Later she was further renamed Harcourt Kent and was subsequently wrecked at Cape Pine, Nfld on 22 Nov 1949.

The images on this page are taken out of an album compiled by Barry Robinson, a veteran of HMCS FERGUS, a WWII Corvette.

From Rhonda Wilson:

"Photo taken in May 1945 in Ireland when the crew and officers were getting organized for a formal picture. The formal picture measures approx 10" x 30" and was taken by The Service Photo Co. Pribright, Surrey, 2079. The formal picture has the officers and crew sitting and standing with the ship in the background ... therefore this picture would have everyone lining up to get ready. Please note that you can tell that the chairs are in a semi-circle formation - in the formal picture that was taken the men look to be in a straight row and the train tracks appear to be curved ."

The subject is Art Wilson, who was photographed ashore from the FERGUS in Montreal, shortly after the ship's Commissioning in Collingwood.

This photo was submitted by Rhonda Wilson who is also looking for information on the FERGUS.
